How to Choose Natural Beauty Products for Glowing Skin and Healthy Hair

The Facial Cleanser:
The face is often more sensitive than the skin on the rest of the body, so the face must be treated with extra care.  For smooth, clear skin, look for a cleanser that does not dry the skin and is not too harsh.  Castile soap or glycerin both work very well for cleaning the face without robbing it of precious moisture.  Castile soap is an olive oil based soap, while glycerin is a kind of soap specifically for sensitive skin. Both these types of soaps can be made at home.

The Exfoliator:
Adding exfoliation to your daily skin care routine can help boost your skin’s vibrancy and vitality.  Exfoliating removes the top layer of dead skin, which blocks off oxygen and sunlight to the healthy skin below, thereby giving your face a dull appearance.  Exfoliating before cleansing will strip off this unnecessary layer and provide you with naturally glowing skin. In choosing an exfoliator, look for one that is primarily composed of natural ingredients. Sample a pea-sized amount, and rub between your fingers. The consistency should be grainy without sharp and uneven particles that could potentially scratch the skin. The Sunscreen:

Choose a mineral-based, because it is gentler on the skin and causes less allergic reactions. Active ingredients to look for in mineral-based sunscreens: zinc oxide and titanium oxide.

However, most shampoos in the market are made from petroleum-derived chemicals and ingredients possibly linked to cancer and other health problems. Avoid ingredients like BHA and parabens. The Hair Dye:
Natural hair coloring is also available as a healthier alternative to chemical-based dyes. Choose a hair color brand that uses extracts of vegetables, plants and herbs, with minimal chemicals. These brands usually do not contain ammonia, hydrogen peroxide and PPD (p-Phenylenediamine), which have caused allergic reactions in some people.

Natural beauty refers to achieving a healthy look for your skin, body, and hair. It means taking care of your body from the inside out before attempting to fix skin problems with surface treatments like moisturizer or makeup. What this means is that the first step to refreshing your appearance is by living an overall healthier lifestyle. Many times, a simple lifestyle change is all it takes to completely revitalize your look. This is the very essence of beauty and wellness.

Tip #1: Eat right and are take enough vitamins and minerals each day.  Add a multivitamin to your morning routine to ensure that you are receiving all the nutrients your body needs.  Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and try to avoid excess fats, sugars, and processed foods.  Healthy food for your body will show through in your appearance as your skin clears and becomes more moist and supple, giving you a radiant glow.

Tip #2: Exercise. Start out with just a 30-minute walk at least 3 times a week. This is a powerful natural beauty and wellness tip, because regular physical activity improves blood flow to the skin, giving it a fuller and glowing look.  Of course, exercise will also help you stay trim and looking good all-around.  On top of the benefits to your appearance, working out on a regular basis will keep your internal organs and heart healthy, extending your life, as well as preventing some cancers.

Tip #3: Keep yourself hydrated. Aim to consume 2 liters of water a day, which is an equivalent of at least 8 glasses. As skin dries out, it becomes inflexible and more susceptible to wrinkles.  Instead of applying heavy moisturizing cream externally, try drinking more water to provide moisture from the inside.  This is a far healthier and natural solution to the common problem of dry skin.

Tip #4: Protect yourself from the sun. Minimize exposure to sunlight, and when this is not possible, don’t forget to apply sunscreen with an SPF 15 rating or higher, and wear protective clothing to cover your shoulders, shades to protect your eyes and a wide-brim hat to protect your face. The UV rays from the sun will dry out your skin and cause it to wrinkle prematurely.

Tip #5: Smile. Laugh. Be with friends and loved ones. Have fun. This is probably the most important natural beauty and wellness tip. Laughing produces endorphins, which not only improves immunity, but also gives a positive aura and a youthful glow. And remember: Being happy inside will show itself on the outside.
